Princess Sponsors National Premier of "Over Alaska"
PBS Television Presents a Bird's-Eye View of the 49th State on Tuesday, October 1
Even after Princess' guests depart from Alaska for the season, the company will be providing television viewers throughout North America with a different way to experience the state's stunning beauty. Princess is the primary sponsor of "Over Alaska," a breathtaking aerial tour of the 49th state, produced for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
The hour-long Emmy award-winning program will premiere nationwide on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at 9 pm on most PBS stations. The airing follows the season premiere of the popular "Nova" series, and will reach an expected audience of more than 2.5 million viewers. Princess is celebrating the broadcast with a series of special promotions to encourage travelers to experience the state in person once they have seen the dramatic images of the television special.
"As the market leader in Alaska vacations, we are naturally familiar with the impact of state's scenery on those who see it for the first time," said Dean Brown, Princess' executive vice president of customer service and sales, who also serves as chairman and CEO of Seattle-based Princess Tours. "We certainly hope that this breathtaking program will give viewers a taste of Alaska that inspires them to experience the Land of the Midnight Sun for themselves."
The special, shot in state-of-the-art High Definition Television (HDTV), showcases the abundant natural wonders of Alaska with never-before-seen aerial footage and rare images of wildlife to acquaint viewers with the state's territorial treasures. Alaskan highlights featured include: Denali (Mt. McKinley), the tallest peak in North America; the Inside Passage, with its green waterways and forested islands; and the famed Alaskan Railroad.
Among the other uniquely Alaskan images presented are the Iditarod dog sled race, ice climbing, Native American dancers and tribes, awe-inspiring glaciers, and an amazing array of wildlife including bears, salmon, moose, Dahl sheep, otters and whales. Alaska's national parks and forests also feature prominently -- from the most visited, like Denali National Park, to the largest in the nation, Wrangell-St. Elias. Princess lodges are featured nearby each.
"Over Alaska" is a production of KCTS Television Seattle in association with NHK Television Japan.
Princess is the leader in Alaska vacations, offering Inside Passage and Gulf of Alaska cruises during the summer season aboard state-of-the-art ships. Gulf sailings can be combined with land tours or independent travelers can enjoy stays at one or more of Princess' five purpose-built riverside wilderness lodges. The company also owns a fleet of UltraDome railcars and luxury motorcoaches, which transport passengers through the heart of Alaska in style.
