Museum of the NorthEnjoy a self-guided tour of the University of Alaska Museum of the North featuring 1.4 million artifacts and specimens representing millions of years of biological diversity and thousands of years of cultural traditions in the North. Visit current or long running exhibitions in any of the museum's collections: The Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery features 2,000 years of Alaska's art including ancient ivory carvings, coiled grass baskets and other Alaska native artworks as well as contemporary landscape artists. The archaeology collection consists of more than 750,000 artifacts representing sites dating from 13,000 years ago, and the Gallery of Alaska offers award-winning displays on the land, the animals and the people of Alaska. Highlights include fist-sized gold nuggets, a 36,000-year-old bison mummy, whale skulls and mammoth tusks. Before your return trip, be sure to visit the Museum Store, where you're sure to find Alaska Native art, books, and jewelry.
