CHISTOCHINA ATHABASCAN NATIVE TOUR

Join us on a fun and fact-filled tour as we drive 60 miles north to Chistochina, a thriving Athabascan village on the Richardson Highway. Walk through the old village, learn of the old ways and teachings and understand how they have been adapted for modern life. Understand the significance of protecting and maintaining the old structures built by village ancestors. Visit a working kennel and learn the important role that dogs played in transportation and survival prior to statehood in rural Alaska. Visit with beloved village elders Jerry and Lena Charley who have lived their entire lives in Chistochina. See first-hand the traditions of drum-making, dog sled building and beading. Finish the tour with a stop at the local trading post to see beautiful Athabascan beadwork made locally by Alaska Native women.
